How to Make a Fabric Pinwheel Using Cricut
These fabric pinwheels are super simple to make. They are fun and colorful. Using your Cricut makes them even easier. You can make them from double sided paper or fabric. Today we are going to make them out of fabric the easy way using Cricut. I am providing a free SVG cut file to help you make your colorful pinwheels. use download it into Cricut Design Space and cut your fabrics and put it together. Let’s get started.
What you will Need: How to Make a Fabric Pinwheel Using Cricut
- SVG Pattern you can get here
- Cricut
- Pink Cutting Mat
- Rotary Cutter
- Scraps of two different cotton fabrics that are at least 6″ square
- Scrap of wonder under or Heat n Bond
- paper straw
- Brad
- Hot glue
- Awl
Step 1: Fuse the Fabrics Together
Press the fusible web to the wrong side of one of the fabric pieces pressing on the paper. Once it has cooled remove the paper backing and place the other piece of fabric onto the first piece of fabric wrong sides together and press again so that the fabric pieces are fused together.
Step 2: Place the fabrics onto the Mat
Place the fabrics on the pink Cricut cutting mat in the top left corner. Load the mat into the machine using the load/unload button.
Step 3: Download the SVG
Download the SVG file onto your computer then upload it using the upload button in Cricut design space that says upload. it will be placed in your upload file in design space. Choose the file to add to design space by clicking on it and clicking add to canvas. It will appear on your canvas. Once it appears on your canvas highlight it and click attach.
Step 4: Make It in Design Space
Click make it in Design Space. Select on Mat. Select Browse all materials and go to fabric. From there choose cotton.
Step 5: Install your Rotary Blade
In the B compartment install your rotary cutting blade. load the mat and press go. Cricut will cut out the fabric. Weed the fabric.
Step 6: Fold the Corners
Fold the alternate corners of the square toward the center and stitch or glue them down one at a time. I just glued mine. You will see the pinwheel shape.
Step 7: Insert the Brad
Insert the brad through the hole in the center of the pinwheel. Use the awl if needed. Use the awl to open a hole in the straw and insert the prongs of the brad into the straw and fold them back. The pinwheel should turn. You have now finished your fabric pinwheel using Cricut.
