How to Make a Split Monogram in Cricut Design Space

Divided monograms and divided words are so fun. They make perfect wall art, T-shirts, mugs, cellphone cases just about anything. Use them in shadow boxes and picture frames. Make them multi layered to give them interest. Today I am going to show you the basics of making a divided monogram or a divided word in seconds using Cricut Design Space. The hardest part of this project is picking out the font. If you read my how to upload fonts to design space post you have even more font options. So how do we make a split monogram in Cricut Design Space. Let’s get started.

Step 1: Open Design Space Canvas

As always you are going to open a blank canvas in design space by clicking canvas in the drop down menu on the top left of design space.

Step 2: Choose a Font

Decide which font you want for the monogram or main word. Just click the text T on the left menu bar to bring up the word text. Go to the top menu bar where it says font and choose a font for your monogram or word. Click on the font and the word text will change into that font.

Step 3: Choose a Word or Monogram

Choose the letter or word you want to divide. I chose the letter C and and typed it onto my canvas. Scale it to the size that you want by pulling one of the corners.

Step 4: Select a Rectangle

Go to the shapes icon in the left menu bar and select the rectangle. Unlock the size dimensions in the top menu bar and resize the rectangle to the length of your last name and center it on the letter or word that you have chosen.

Step 5: Create the Split

Select both the letter or word and the rectangle by using the mouse and drawing a box around the two shapes. Go to the bottom right menu bar and see the combine dropdown menu and select subtract. This will divide the letter or word in half where you placed the rectangle.

Step 6: Add the Dividing Lines

Go back th the shapes menu and choose the rectangle tool. click the unlock function and resize the lines to the size you want and put them into place. Highlight both the lines and the monogram and go to the bottom menu and click weld.

Step 7: Select a Second Font

Select a second font that you are going to use for your last name. Type out your last name.

Step 8: Place Last Name

Place your last name in the opening you just made in the letter or word you chose. You now have a divided monogram or word perfect for cutting on your Cricut.
