How to Make a 3D Summer Shadow Box using Cricut
I recently made a really cute spring wall hanging with a free SVG. I thought I would make a 3D summer shadow box using Cricut to go along with it. The SVG for this project is free as well and super simple to put together. It uses various colors of orange and yellow with a little black and gray thrown in. All you need for this project is card stock, adhesive foam, a shadow box and a cutting machine. So let’s get started.

What you will Need: How to Make a 3D Summer Shadow Box
- Free Summer SVG
- Cricut or other cutting machine
- Various colors of solid core card stock
- Adhesive squares
- Adhesive Dots
- Glue — I use Bearly Art
Step 1: Download the SVG
Click on the link for the SVG and download it to your computer.
Step 2: Upload the SVG
Upload the SVG from your computer onto Cricut Design Space by clicking on the upload button on the bottom left menu. Select Upload image from the upload screen. Click browse then find the SVG on your computer. Click on the file and once it is in Design Space click upload on the bottom right. Once it is own the upload page select it and click add to canvas on the bottom right.
Step 3: Resize the Image
I made this to fit into an 8″ x 8″ shadow box but you can resize it to fit into a larger one if you like. A smaller one may be difficult with some of the smaller pieces.
Step 4: Cut out the Pieces
Once you click Make It select On Mat. Place the appropriate color of card stock onto the blue mat and cut each piece according to the instructions in Design Space.
Step 5: Put it Together
Take the all orange square and the blue square with the words on it and glue them together using glue. There are some really small pieces that are for the O and the two Es glue those on as well.
Using the foam squares adhere the sun ray layer to the blue square in the center.
Take the darkest orange circle and adhere it to the center of the sun ray layer using the foam dots. adhere the next two lightest circles using the foam dots.
Adhere the sunglasses to the yellow circle using glue. Place the gray underneath the black. Glue the yellow circle onto the other circles. Then glue on the flower. This can be a little fidgety as it comes in pieces. Once you have glued on the flower you have finished your piece.
Step 6: Frame It
I used an 8″ x 8″ shadow box frame of my project and simply placed it into the box and sealed it up. Hello Summer!!
