There are script fonts, serif, and sans serif or without extending features like block letters among others. There are also system fonts and web fonts. System fonts are fonts that are already on your computer and web fonts are the ones you download from the internet. There is a way to find Cricut fonts, System fonts and to upload new fonts to Cricut Design Space. Let’s learn how.

Click on the drop down arrow to see both the system fonts and the Cricut fonts. You will notice that you can see how to font looks in a sentence. More importantly you can search and filter the fonts using the menu options. Start by choosing whether you want a Cricut font, system font, bookmarked font or a recent font.

See your choices

Once you have clicked on Cricut fonts it will list all of the available fonts, Cricut access and free, modern, classic, blackletter etc. You will want to filter from here. go to the sliding bar icon at the top right and click on that dropdown menu to further narrow your search. If you know the name of the font you can always put it in the search bar to find it.

You will notice that there is a banner next to each font. Click on the banner to book mark the font so that you can find it quickly. The banner will turn green and the font will show up under the bookmarked tab at the top.

Bookmarked Tab

If you are dissatisfied with the fonts that are available to you and wish to upload new fonts that are available to you in Design Space don’t worry it is super simple to do. You remember that I told you that there are essentially three font types available to you in Design Space, Cricut, System and Web. Here is where they become important.

Cricut fonts come in two types: free and paid. The free fonts are just that, free. The paid fonts can either be purchased one at a time or are available for free with a Cricut access subscription with the exception of premium fonts like licensed fonts which are always paid. Also, these fonts are not yours to keep forever. They stop being yours if you cancel your membership to access.

Web fonts also come in two types: free and paid. You get these from the internet and download them to your computer via a zip file. Once they are downloaded to your computer they become a system font in Cricut Design Space. If you want to sell your designs using any of these fonts you must make sure you do not run afoul of copyright laws and make sure that it comes with a commercial license or you purchase one with it.

Step 3: Get New fonts

There are a number of places to buy quality fonts check out these sites:

  1. Creative market.com
  2. Fontbundles.net
  3. Design Bundles.net
  4. Sofontsy.com

There are a few great places to get free fonts too. check out these sites:

  1. Dafont.com
  2. Fonts.google.com
  3. Fontbundles.net

Now that you know where to get fonts, how do you upload them?

Step 4: Download New font

Go to the website of your choice and choose a font. Either purchase it or get it for free and click download. I went to Dafont and downloaded Autography by clicking download.

Once I dowloaded the file I went to my downloads folder. And opened the autography file and got this. I clicked install and that was all there was for me.

Click install.

Many fonts come in a file with multiple files and documents. I downloaded a font called Daniel Davis in the same way that I did autography and got this:

OTF and TFF

If you are given the option between OTF and TFF choose the OTF. The difference between the two is primarily that OTF has ligatures, glyphs, small caps, and alternate characters. You will want all of these things when designing in Design Space.

One of my favorite fonts is called I love glitter. It is a fun font that has a lot of glyphs that I can add to my designs. If you look through some of your favorite fonts you may be surprised at the glyphs you find in them that you can add. Check these out:

Glyphs

To add a Glyph to your design you will want to copy and paste it from Font Book or Character Map depending on whether you are using a Windows or Mac computer. Make sure your font is selected. Just go into design space and click on the search magnifying glass at the top of your computer screen not the design Space screen. Search for Font Book on Mac and Character Map on Windows to pull up the glyphs. Copy the glyph you want and paste it into your design.

Font Book Or Character Map

You can see how simple it is to add a new font for to your computer. Once it is added to your computer it is automatically added to Cricut Design Space as a system font. There are so many fonts to choose from that there is no reason to be limited in your design choices. Whether it is script, serif, sans serif or written there is something out there for you. Just spend a little time to find exactly what you want.
