How to Make an Insert Card using Cricut Joy
I wasn’t sure whether to purchase a Cricut Joy or not because I already had the Cricut Maker 3 but I decided to go ahead and get one since it was on sale for a good price at Cricut.com. I soon learned that the Cricut joy is the perfect companion to my Maker 3. It can’t be beat for card making and it does other things too. But for this tutorial I am going to show you exactly how to make an insert card using Cricut Joy.

What you will Need: How to Make an Insert Card using Cricut Joy
- Cricut Joy smart cutting machine
- Cricut Joy app, or Design Space software on computer or mobile device
- Cricut Joy Blade and Housing
- Cricut Joy Insert Cards
- Cricut Joy Card Mat
- Cricut Joy Pens or Markers (optional)
Step 1: Select an Insert Design
I recommend that you head over to the projects button in Cricut Design Space and click the dropdown menu and choose insert cards. From there use the search bar to find the right card for you. I chose Father’s Day since it is upcoming and I got a lot of options for insert cards there. If you are not a member of Cricut Access you will have limited options so I would recommend that you join Access here.
Step 2: Select the Size
Cricut Insert Cards come in different sizes. When you choose your project you will be asked to select the size of your card. Do not forget to do this or you project will not come out right.
Step 3: Make It
At the bottom of the project you will see a green button that says Make It. Click that to move onto the next step. Since you will be cutting on the Cricut Card Mat click On Mat. Then, select where it says browse more materials and choose Insert Card-Cardstock.
Step 4: Prepare your Card and Mat
First, remove the protective cover from the mat. Open the card. Slide one side of the folded card under the plastic divider from the left. Make sure that the card is aligned with the top left corner of the mat and flush with the top. Then, align the inside fold of the card against plastic divider. Press the front of the card onto the adhesive on the mat.
Step 5: Cut your Card
Click Make It. Choose on card mat. Select Insert Card-Cardstock then Go. Insert the mat into the Cricut Joy with the arrow end first. The Joy will automatically feed and cut the card. When it is finished peel the mat away from the card not the other way around. Place the insert into the corner notches of the inside of the card.
Step 6: Write a Sentiment
If you would like to write a sentiment on the inside of the card it is simple to do. When using the Cricut Joy app, a message may be added to the inside of the card during the design step for both ready-to-make and custom Insert Cards. This is App specific. The inside will print first.
