How to Make an Autumn Leaf Wreath using Cricut
I came across this project on 12 x 12 Cardstock shop and created my own version to share with you. It is a fun and beautiful cardstock project that is perfect for your home’s decor this autumn season. This Cricut crafting project comes with a free SVG and a free PDF if you want to cut the pieces out by hand. Either way this is a terrific autumn craft to make. I used the dotted Swiss fall flair pack cardstock from 12 x 12 cardstock shop for my project but any medium weight autumn colored cardstock will work for this project. I used a 12″ embroidery hoop for the wreath frame that I purchased at JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores on line and picked up in store. this post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. What you will Need: How to Make an Autumn Leaf Wreath using Cricut
- SVG you can get by clicking on this link
- Autumn colored cardstock in a variety of autumn colors — I used 12 x 12 cardstock shop
- 12″ Embroidery hoop
- Premade Bow or Burlap ribbon
- Hot Glue with hot glue gun
- Craft Glue — I use Bearly Art
- Cricut or other cutting machine
- 12″ Piece of Burlap ribbon
- Distressed Oxides in various colors (optional)
- Flower shaping tool
- 4 Small Clothes Pins
Step 1: Download and Upload the SVG
You need to download the SVG to your computer and then upload it to Cricut design Space or the cutting software for your machine. If you are unfamiliar with this process check out the below video that will walk you through the process.
Step 2: Make It
Cut two of the vine pieces from green cardstock and 8 or more leaves in various colors and shapes. To do this hide the leaves you do not want to cut and duplicate the ones you do. I chose a variety of shapes and changed the color of some of my shapes by using the color syncing panel to save on cardstock. Follow the prompts in Design Space to cut out the pieces. I used 8 leaves but you could use more or less. You could resize the leaves if you like. It is up to you.
Step 3: Add the Burlap Ribbon
String a piece of burlap ribbon across the top third of the embroidery hoop and insert the ends between the two embroidery hoop pieces and tighten.
Step 4: Glue the Letters
Starting with the scalloped edge rectangles, add the plain rectangles and then the letters. Once the letters have been created set them aside. You will add them to the burlap ribbon using clothes pins in a later step.
Step 5: Glue the Vine Pieces
On the bottom of the embroidery hoop opposite the screw side glue the two vine pieces so that they are centered on the bottom. Use your hot glue for this.
Step 6: Highlight the Leaves
In this part you have a choice to leave the leaves as they are or highlight them. I chose to highlight them using distressed oxides and my flower shaping tool. First I used a medium ball tip to draw the veins on the leaves. Then I highlighted the veins using my distressed oxides to give them dimension.
Step 7: Glue the Leaves
Glue the leaves to the vine pieces in a random fashion alternating the colors and shapes until you are pleased with the arrangement.
Step 8: Add the Bow
I purchased an autumn bow at Dollar Tree that I used to embellish the top of the wreath. Using your hot glue gun. Glue the bow to the screw side of the wreath to hide the screw and embellish the wreath. Add the letters to the ribbon using small clothes pins.
