How to Make Floating Christmas Ornaments
I just love these floating Christmas ornaments. They are so simple to make using your Cricut. I have included a free SVG to fit two sizes of clear Dollar Tree ornaments. I used the small 2.5″ size and the larger 5″ size. Homage was paid to my granddaughter’s first Christmas and a little Christmas cheer. This is a vinyl craft so if you want more vinyl crafts check out these.

What you will Need: How to Make Floating Christmas Ornaments
- SVGs you can get by clicking on this link
- 4 ml clear acetate
- Permanent vinyl
- Clear plastic ornaments
- Cricut of your choice
- Standard Cricut Tools
Step 1: Download and Upload the SVG
If you are unfamiliar with how to download and upload an SVG check out this video. I have included two blank cutouts so that you can use Cricut access to decorate them anyway you like.
Step 2: Weld the Pieces Together
Change the Name on the Child’s first Christmas SVG by highlighting the name and typing in a different one. Highlight each color separately and go to the bottom of the layers panel and click Weld so that all of the pieces cut out in the appropriate order and you can place them each in one step. The light red piece is the acetate piece.
Step 3: Make It
Once you have Made any alterations to the SVG it is time to Make IT. Place the permanent vinyl and the acetate sheet on separate green cutting mats. Select on Mat and choose the appropriate material type for the permanent vinyl ad the acetate sheet. Feed the mat and cut the materials.
Step 4: Weed It
Weed the excess vinyl from the design using a Cricut weeding tool.
Step 5: Transfer It
Place your transfer tape onto the design and burnish it well. Remove the design from the backing and place it carefully on the acetate cut out. Do this by placing the design sticky side up and placing the acetate cutout down on top of the design centering it. Repeat for the other parts of the design.
Step 6: Insert the Design
Take the top off the ornament. Roll the acetate cutout from one side to the other so that it will ft into the opening of the ornament. Insert the rolled up cutout into the ornament and release. It should unfold and appear as if it s floating. The Tab at the top should fit snugly in the mouth of the ornament to keep it stable.
